SMR Congress

Abstracts

The 2019 Society for Melanoma Research International Congress provides the opportunity to present and/or view innovative data related to clinical and basic melanoma research and to network with an international audience representing a diverse spectrum of expertise.

This year’s congress will host many proffered papers from a broad range of different topics, thereby increasing the opportunity to have your work in the spotlight and share it with the global clinical and research community.

Participants interested in presenting data should submit abstracts online. Abstract submission will begin spring, 2019. SMR will also notify everyone once the submission site is open. The Scientific Review Committee will select abstracts for oral and poster presentation. Once accepted, all abstracts will be published in Pigment Cell and Melanoma Research.

Key Dates:

  • May 1st – Abstract Submissions Open
  • August 9th – Abstract Submissions Close
  • August 12th – Late Breaking Abstract Submissions Open
  • September 17th – Abstract Notification
  • November 1st – Late Breaking Abstract Submission Closes

FAQ’s:

  • Q: Are placeholders or abstract shells required for late-breaking abstracts?
    • A: No, shells are not able to be submitted in advance. The late breaking abstract site will open on July 30th.
  • Q: Are trials in progress (TIP) abstracts accepted?
    • A: Yes
  • Q: Are encore abstracts that have been previously presented/published accepted?
    • A: Yes, however it is not preferred.

Abstract Guidelines

  • Follow submission instructions provided at https://melanomacongress2019.abstractcentral.com/login Link needed
  • Abstract submission is free of charge and must be completed online.
  • Abstracts submitted by e-mail, post or fax will not be accepted.
  • Abstracts must be written in English, the official language of the congress.
  • List affiliations of author(s) as briefly as possible with city, state (if applicable), and country.
  • Use standard and well-accepted abbreviations only.
  • You will need to indicate the name of the presenting author at the congress (This is the person who will present the oral or poster presentation during scheduled times if accepted.)
  • Upon acceptance, your abstract will be published in the PCMR journal the exact way it is entered into your submission. Please be sure all information is entered correctly (i.e. capitalizations, spelling, grammar, etc.)
  • Abstract content should be single-spaced and typed in lower case. You have up to 2000 characters (counting spaces) that include the title and abstract body (does not include authors and affiliations). Please do NOT separate the section with sub headers (ie. Method, Results).
  • The following list corresponds with the session topics slated to be presented at the SMR Congress. Abstracts are to be submitted based on the following categories:
    • Drug Resistance
    • Epigenetics and Metabolism
    • Genetics and Genomics
    • Immunotherapy
    • Melanoma and Melanocyte Biology
    • Targeted Therapy
    • Tumor Heterogeneity and Plasticity
    • Tumor Microenvironment

Abstract Regulations and Instructions

  1. Before submitting your abstract, please be sure to read the abstract submission guidelines.
  2. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
  3. The first / submitting author agrees to / undertakes to:
    1. Release full copyright to SMR and give full permission for the abstract, if accepted, to be published in the SMR 2019 Abstract book in printed and/or electronic format, as well as published online on at www.wiley.com.
    2. Warrant that he/she is an investigator with a substantial involvement in the study presented in the abstract.
    3. Confirm that all authors are aware of, and agree to, the content of the abstract and support the data therein; furthermore the presenting author will be responsible for obtaining, and, upon request, showing proof that all authors have given their permission for the submission of the abstract and content therein as well as for the potential inclusion of the abstract in the official SMR 2019 Congress Program.
    4. Upon acceptance, your abstract will be published in the PCMR journal the exact way it is entered into your submission. Please be sure all information is entered correctly (i.e. capitalizations, spelling, grammar, etc.)
    5. Accept responsibility for the accuracy and confidentiality of the submitted abstract.
    6. Acknowledge any editorial assistance on the printed poster or oral presentation (not in the abstract body) in the writing of the abstract that was provided by a third party, providing the name of the writer and the company who provided this service.
    7. Ensure that for all studies involving human or animal subjects, permission has been obtained from the relevant regulatory authority and that properly informed consent, where appropriate, has been given.

Withdrawal of abstracts

If the submitting author wishes to withdraw his/her abstract from SMR 2019 after outcome notifications have been made available, he/she must submit a written request within 48 hours to [email protected]. Any abstract withdrawal requests made after 48 hours from notification cannot be assured of removal from the 2019 SMR Congress Abstract Book.

Congress Registration

The designated presenting author of any abstracts accepted will be required to register for the Congress by the early registration deadline of Friday, October 18 and are responsible for their own travel arrangements.

Publication Schedule

Abstracts accepted for presentation (either Proffered Paper/Oral presentation or Poster Presentation) will be published in the Congress Abstract Book.

Accepted abstracts submitted by July 29, 2019 will be published in the Abstract Book section of “Pigment Cell & Melanoma Research”, scheduled for an January 2020 release date. Please note your abstract will be published exactly as it is submitted on-line. Please ensure accuracy of your submitted abstract on or before the deadline of July 29, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. EST. Please do not create a new submission for abstracts requiring edits or completion.

Accepted Abstracts should not be published online or in print prior to the beginning of the official Congress session during in which they are presented.

Media & Embargo Policy

  • Authors may disclose or announce that their abstract has been accepted for presentation at the congress, including announcements via press release.
  • Abstracts will be available online. As soon as they are available, disclosure or announcement of the data published in the abstract is fully permissible.
  • A press release describing the full details of the presentation can be timed for release on the day of presentation at the congress, not prior.
